This perennial is a creeper with lots of spines and compound leaves. Its flowers are usually pink (rarely white) and its fleshy fruit are edible (photo). Usually flowers from spring till autumn.

Forms part of the maquis ecosystems. Usually found growing in valleys, after taking over the habitat previously occupied by less hardy plant species. Common.
